Barker. I am Kristina L Barker—a wife of 16 years, mom of three energetic sons, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Certified Life coach, entrepreneur, student, neighbor, sister and friend. A native Washingtonian, I’m the second oldest of four daughters born and raised in Washington, DC. I graduated from Eastern Senior High in the late 90’s, completed my undergraduate education at Iowa State University earning a BA in Education, completed graduate school at Liberty University earning a MA in Professional Counseling, and am currently working toward the completion of a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northcentral University (estimated completion, Fall 2023). From the age of 12, I’ve known that my calling was therapy and counseling. My friends would actually call me “Ricky Lake” in high school because I was always hosting conversations around relationships and giving advice to friends dealing with boyfriend/ girlfriend drama. I’ve come a long way since then, and through years of personal, academic, and professional development, I’ve honed my craft and come to understand my specific calling to counsel and coach women who are navigating the challenges inherent to their domestic roles as wives and moms— challenges such as stress, role strain, anxiety and high functioning depression. I’ve worked in Domestic Violence counseling, Christian Lay ministry, outpatient mental health, and private group practice with couples and families. I am also a certified Life Coach who focuses on Spiritual and Relationship Coaching. Most days, I wake up and can’t believe I get to make a living doing what I love most—helping individuals, couples and families navigate through life’s challenges using a holistic approach that incorporates care for the mind, soul and spirit because I’d literally do this work (and have done this work) for free were it not for, you know, bills and stuff! In short, my personal passions are faith, family and mental health. I enjoy hosting family-friendly socials and events, traveling domestically and abroad, anything considered an adventure, quality time with my husband and sons, cultural events and lots and lots and lots of girl talk. I’m also a chronic social media post-er and scroller. I love people-watching and would have probably made a pretty good anthropologist in another life! I live by strong Christian convictions and the personal philosophy “Love God and love people!” I believe that life really is just that simple. Love is really all that matters.
